DR. JOÃO MARTINIANO
Podiatrist and Higher Education Lecturer
Academic Background
- He graduated in Podiatry in 2004 from the Escola Superior de Saúde do Vale do Ave, CESPU, and in 2005 completed a Postgraduate Degree in Health Unit Management at the same higher education institution.
- In 2007, he began advanced training at the University of Seville, where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Biomechanics and Orthopodology, as well as a PhD in Health Sciences, with research focused on the influence of the foot on the locomotor system.
- More recently, he completed a Master’s Degree in Podiatric Surgery at the same University.
Professional and Academic Career
- Since 2005, he has been practising as a clinician and co-owner at Clínica PodoSaúde Sul, a foot treatment clinic in Portimão, and has also been working as a Podiatrist at Clínica Médica Dr Luís de Carvalho Afonso in Lagos since 2006.
- Since 2018, he has served as Head of Teaching in the Podiatry Degree Programme at the Escola Superior de Saúde da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa – Lisbon (ESS CVP Lisbon).
- He also acts as Coordinator of the Academic Clinic at the Escola Superior de Saúde da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa – Lisbon.
Recognitions and Prestigious Roles
- In August 2024, he was appointed Rotating Member of the Technical Assessment Committee in the field of Podiatry by ACSS (Central Administration of the Health System).
- In March 2025, he was elected Honorary Member of the Sociedad Española de Podología Clínica y Quirúrgica (SEPCyQ), in recognition of his scientific and academic contributions to podiatry.
- In April 2025, he was re-elected Treasurer of ENPODHE (European Network of Podiatry in Higher Education), an association that seeks to harmonise and promote podiatry education in Europe, fostering academic mobility and the standardisation of curricula.
Scientific Activity and Conference Participation
- Speaker at several national and international congresses.
- He co-authored the chapter “The repercussions of ageing on the lower limb” (2021), published by the University of Madeira, addressing the impact of ageing on the feet and strategies for healthy ageing, as well as other international articles.
- He is currently collaborating on an international project called METAHEFO, which focuses on the use of Virtual Reality and the Metaverse in Health Education.

Podiatrist
Graduated in Podiatry from the Escola Superior de Saúde da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa in Lisbon in 2023, she develops her clinical practice with a focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of foot pathologies.
Since graduating, she has worked in various healthcare units, including private clinics, the Cruz Vermelha Hospital, and currently within the CUF network. Her approach values scientific rigor, empathy, and personalised care, promoting patients’ well-being and quality of life.
DRA. CATARINA ALEXANDRE
Psychologist
Master’s degree in Clinical and Health Psychology, with specialist recognition awarded by the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association in the same field.
Professional experience in Health, Clinical, and Community Psychology, as well as training and teaching.
She has advanced training in Emergency Psychology, Palliative Care, Clinical Intervention in Pain, and Active Psychotherapies, as well as in other areas such as Psychopharmacology, Psychopathology, Grief, and Laughter Yoga, among others.
Recently, she contributed to the writing of two chapters in the book “Perturbações da Parentalidade 2” and has publications and presentations at national and international psychology conferences.
